My concentration focuses on playing with color and seeing how certain ways of coloring affect a painting. As for my first project, I wanted to experiment with reflexive and transparent surfaces and learn how color interacts with it.
For my second project, I wanted to further my understanding of reflective surfaces and how these surfaces interact with color, as well as make the overall composition of my painting more dynamic. I also experimented with underpainting in this piece; I wanted to add more vibrance to my piece so I decided to paint a peachy-orange color on the canvas first, then start painting the balloons.
For my third project, I focused on finding color in seemingly simple white colors. While painting I didn't do any photoshoots; I drew from life, which proved to be a challenge. It isn't my best piece because the colors were more challenging to match but it was an important step in my concentration nevertheless.
As for my fourth project, I was inspired by the artist Janet Fish to incorporate plastic wrap into my photoshoot. I focused on trying to create the feeling of depth and perspective using the plastic wrap. I also cropped my picture in a way that made it more abstract which put me out of my comfort zone. In the end, I personally liked the result.
For my fifth painting, I wanted to focus on capturing transparency. I achieved this by desaturating the color of objects to make them feel more see-through. I also focused on movement in my painting as well as using saturation and detail to direct my viewers eyes to certain parts of my painting. I then tried to add depth to a seemingly flat background. As ive done previously, I painted a light pink underpaint before sketching my picture to make my painting "pop."
For my sixth project, I stayed focused on my study of colors and reflections. More specifically, I wanted to try to show color within shadows and light. Because of COVID-19 however, I had to finish this project using an online drawing website which proved to be a challenge. Nevertheless, I am happy with the results.
For my seventh project, I wanted to continue learning how to find color in white objects because I feel as though I needed more practice with it. I used an online drawing website to paint this piece just like my previous artwork and yet again it proved to be a difficult task.
For my 8th project, I wanted to practice more with metallic objects and simple backgrounds. I found that drawing metallic objects is a bit tedious, but I believe I have gotten a lot better at digital painting from this.
